The Most Important Commandment
36“Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses?”
37Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’[1] 38This is the first and greatest commandment. 39A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[2] 40The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.”

Don’t you love how Jesus sums things up in this verse? We tend to make things complex, but Jesus simplifies things. Instead of following thousands of different commandments or trying to do everything, Jesus says that the most important thing for us to do is to love God and other people. When we love God and others, everything else tends to fall into place. One way we can refocus our attention and affection to loving God and others is through prayer. When you pray, ask God to give you a love for Him first and then for other people.
Prayer: Ask God to help you to love Him with everything that you have and to love the people around you as you love yourself.
