Big idea
No one would dispute the fact that the path we take leads to a specific destination. That is why I follow my GPS when I need to get somewhere. I know that the way it shows will lead me to where I want to go. Not only is this true with our GPS, but it is also true with life. The decisions we make will lead us to a destination, good or bad. Today, we are going to talk about the importance of making decisions that will lead us where we want to go and, more importantly, where God is calling us to go.

- Why do you think so many people end up at a destination where they never intended to go?
- This last weekend, we shared, “Our choices lead us to a destination.” How have you found this to be true in your life?
3. Read James 1:5-8. What promise do we have to claim from these verses? How does this promise give you confidence in your own life as you seek wisdom?
If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Their loyalty is divided between God and the world, and they are unstable in everything they do.
- What warning do these verses teach us when we ask for wisdom? Do you find asking in faith easy or difficult? Why?
- Read Luke 22:39-42. What stands out to you about Jesus’ prayer?
Then, accompanied by the disciples, Jesus left the upstairs room and went as usual to the Mount of Olives. There he told them, “Pray that you will not give in to temptation.”
He walked away, about a stone’s throw, and knelt down and prayed, “Father, if you are willing, please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.”
- What was Jesus’ main purpose? What does Jesus’ purpose teach us about what our purpose in life and is to be? How does this affect your decision making?
- When you think about what God wants for your life, what gets in the way between what God wants for your life?
Moving forward
If we truly want what God desires for our lives, we have to be willing to recognize areas of our lives where we are off track. In groups of 2 of 3, get together and share areas where you are going in a direction that you know is different than where God wants. If you are in a couple’s group, have the men get into a group to share these areas and have the women in your group do the same. Share these areas with each other and then pray for wisdom and courage to honor God in every step and decision you take.
