  1. Do most people you know speak words that tear people down or build people up? Why?
  2. How have you seen the power of words in your own life, whether they are words that have been said to you or words that you have said?
  3. Read James 3:7-8. Who can tame the tongue? Why is this important for us to understand?

7People can tame all kinds of animals, birds, reptiles, and fish, 8but no one can tame the tongue. It is restless and evil, full of deadly poison.

  1. How do we surrender, or turn over, our words to God?
  2. What is one step that you can take to turn your words over to God today?

Moving forward

Negative words bring death, but positive words bring life. Let’s use our words to bring life, starting right here in this group. Take some time to speak encouraging words over each member of this group. Encourage each other by pointing out the gifts God has given you all and the unique traits and talents He has given you.
