James 1:19NIV · Excerpt

…quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry.

James 1:26NIV

26Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless.

...not slander one another...

James 4:11NIV · Excerpt

Anyone who speaks against a brother or sister or judges them speaks against the law and judges it.

Proverbs 18:21Translation not recorded

Words have the power of life and death...

Prov. 16:24NIV

24Gracious words are a honeycomb,

sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.

James 3:1-4Translation not recorded

Not many of you should presume to be teachers, my brothers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly. We all stumble in many ways. If anyone is never at fault in what he says, he is a perfect man, able to keep his whole body in check. When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal. Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go.

  2. Our words can and destroy others.
James 3:5-8Translation not recorded

Likewise the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole person, sets the whole course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell. James 3:6Translation not recorded

It corrupts the whole person, sets the whole course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.

James 3:9-10Translation not recorded

With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God's likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be.

1. Admit it is .

Proverbs 6:16-19Translation not recorded

There are six things the LORD hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a man who stirs up dissension among brothers.

Psalm 141:3Translation not recorded

Set a guard over my mouth, O LORD; keep watch over the door of my lips.

  1. Ask God .
  2. Use your tongue to .

Here lies Arabella Young, who on the 24th of May finally began to hold her tongue.
