1. He wants us to have a divided heart.
Elijah went before the people and said, "How long will you waver between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow him; but if Baal is God, follow him."
“No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other.”
2. He wants us to have divided priorities.
“Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.”
“Foxes have dens to live in, and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place even to lay his head.”
“Lord, first let me return home and bury my father.”
33But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
Priority #1. Our relationship with God.
Priority #2. Our relationship with our spouse.
Priority #3. Our relationship with our children.
Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is older, he will not depart from it.
Our remaining priorities can now include work, healthy friendships, personal hobbies, and other things that are appropriate.
3. He wants us to have divided relationships.
25And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.
