The role

About this role.

The Security Officer is responsible for providing safety and security services to Sagebrush Church attendees, guests, staff, volunteers, students, and ministry participants by maintaining a safe, secure, and welcoming environment across church campuses and ministry locations. The Security Officer provides a visible security presence, identifies and evaluates security concerns, responds to incidents and emergencies, assists with emergency response activities, and provides appropriate solutions to maintain a safe worship and ministry environment. The Security Officer works closely with the Security Director, church leadership, Facilities, ministry teams, and emergency responders to support the safety and security mission of Sagebrush Church.

Day to day

What you will do.

  • Provide professional security presence throughout the church campus during services, events, and ministry activities.
  • Promote the safety and security of church attendees, staff, volunteers, students, facilities, and property by maintaining a safe and secure environment.
  • Conduct routine interior and exterior security checks to identify fire hazards, property damage, safety concerns, suspicious activity, and facility issues.
  • Perform physical building checks, including verifying doors, windows, restricted areas, and building security systems.
  • Maintain a presence at designated entrances by welcoming guests, observing visitor activity, assisting individuals needing support, and identifying security concerns.
  • Respond to security calls, service requests, alarms, disturbances, and emergency situations throughout the campus.
  • Assess situations and take appropriate action that is consistent with training, church policy, and applicable authority.
  • Assist with emergency response activities, including medical emergencies, evacuations, hazard response, and coordination with emergency personnel.
  • Assist individuals requiring help due to injury, illness, disability, or other circumstances.
  • Monitor security cameras and available technology systems to enhance situational awareness and support response efforts.
  • Observe, document, and report suspicious activity, incidents, accidents, policy violations, and safety concerns.
  • Complete required incident reports and other security documentation.
  • Serve as a liaison with police, fire, medical personnel, and other emergency responders during incidents.
  • Participate in and, when assigned, assist with safety and security training programs for staff, volunteers, and ministry teams, including emergency preparedness, situational awareness, and response procedures.
  • Assist with securing church facilities at the conclusion of services, events, and activities by ensuring designated areas are cleared, buildings are secure, and alarms are properly activated.
  • Assist with ministry operations and security readiness activities as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Security Director, Facilities Manager, or Executive Pastor of Operations.

Required

What you need.

  • Maintains an active Christian faith with the ability to live in accordance with our Staff Covenant.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and maintain with the ability to drive and operate a company vehicle.
  • High school diploma or GED, associate degree or professional certification in a related field preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written; ability to navigate complex interpersonal situations.
  • Proven strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to document incidents accurately through written reports and required documentation.
  • At least 3 years of experience in security, law enforcement, military, EMS, fire service, or a related field.
  • Must maintain reliable access to a personal mobile phone for operational communication when required.
  • Comfortable learning and utilizing various computer programs, including security software, platforms, and Google Workspace, as well as communication systems.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and utilize discretion to exercise sound judgment.
  • Servant Leader mindset, willing to help others with a professional and welcoming attitude toward church members, guests, volunteers, staff, and ministry leaders.
  • Must be flexible, self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities calmly and effectively in a dynamic ministry environment.
  • Ability to identify, assess, and respond appropriately to security concerns, suspicious activity, safety hazards, and emergencies utilizing appropriate response measures consistent with training, church policies, and applicable laws.
  • Knowledge of conflict resolution and verbal de-escalation techniques.
  • Professional and welcoming attitude toward church members, guests, volunteers, staff, and ministry leaders.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with Security personnel, Facilities, Kids Planet, Guest Services, ministry teams, law enforcement, fire personnel, and emergency responders.
  • Ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines.
  • Ability to maintain current knowledge of security practices, emergency procedures, and applicable safety standards.
